83 days to go: The indefatigables

Morocco midfielder Sofyan Amrabat covered the most ground at Qatar 2022: 83 kilometres. The only man to eclipse his tally at one World Cup this century was Germany’s Thomas Muller, thanks to 84 kilometres at Brazil 2014.

Amrabat also finished the first World Cup on the Arabian Peninsula with the most ball recoveries: 57, six more than nearest challenger Luka Modric.

At the same tournament, the latter’s team-mate in the Croatia engine room, Marcelo Brozovic, broke his own record for the most distance covered in a World Cup match by managing a lung-busting 16.7 kilometres against Brazil in the quarter-finals.
