Chivu started his coaching career at Inter, working at various youth levels before taking over as head coach of the U-20 side in 2021. In February he took charge at Parma with the club 18th in Serie A and a point off safety, and managed to steer them to 16th in his 13 matches in charge.
“Cristian Chivu begins the third chapter of his Nerazzurri story, and he does so with the values that have always guided him: dedication, sacrifice and a tireless work ethic,” a statement on Inter’s website read. “Throughout his life, Cristian Eugen Chivu has faced important challenges and decisive moments that have shaped him, both as a person and as a professional. And through all of this, his bond with the Nerazzurri has only grown stronger. Today he begins his third chapter with Inter, but this time as coach of the First Team.”
The 44-year-old’s first task in charge will be to take Inter to the FIFA Club World Cup, where they will face off against CF Monterrey, Urawa Red Diamonds and CA River Plate in Group E. You can read everything you need to know about the tournament in the USA here.
