Ulsan HD 0-1 Mamelodi Sundowns FC | Group F
Goal: Iqraam Rayners (36)
Mamelodi Sundowns FC surged to the top of Group F after a first-half strike from Iqraam Rayners secured a deserved victory over Ulsan HD to begin their FIFA Club World Cup 2025™ campaign in style.
Following the goalless draw between Fluminense FC and Borussia Dortmund earlier in the day, the South African club have put themselves in an improved position to qualify for the knockout stage.
After a 65-minute weather delay at Inter & Co Stadium in Orlando, Sundowns wasted no time taking control of the game. Rayners had the ball in the net three times in the opening half but two of his efforts were ruled out by the officials, the first for handball and then for offside.
In between, the forward gave the Sundowns the lead in the 36th minute when he broke free of the Ulsan defence after a clever through ball from Lucas Ribeiro and struck neatly with the outside of his right boot.
After the break, Ulsan created precious few opportunities to threaten their CAF opponent. The best chance came 10 minutes from time when first Sundowns goalkeeper Ronwen Williams and then centre-back Keanu Cupido repelled a dangerous attack.
