Italy is here for the first time since their only previous participation in 2014, when they finished in third place, prevailing in a penalty shoot-out against Venezuela after a 4-4 draw. At the UEFA European Women’s Under-17 Championship, Italy reached the semi-finals where they lost to Norway. Striker Giulia Galli scored three times at the U-17 Women’s EURO, with Rachele Giudici also contributing two goals. Costa Rica have also not been at the U-17 Women’s World Cup since 2014, when they hosted the tournament. They aim to improve upon their previous results in the competition, having been defeated in all six of their previous World Cup games.

China PR are participating in the U-17 Women’s World Cup for the fourth time, following their previous appearances in 2012, 2014 and 2022. They have yet to make it past the group stage, with their best performance to date having been in their debut in 2012 when they finished with four points total. Norway are taking part in the World Cup for the first time after reaching the final of the U-17 Women’s EURO, where they lost against the Netherlands.

Title holders Korea DPR are the most decorated team at the U-17 Women’s World Cup, having won a record third title last year in the Dominican Republic after their successes at the first edition in 2008 in New Zealand and Jordan 2016. In last year’s final, they defeated Spain 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out following a 1-1 draw. Mexico is participating in the World Cup for an eighth straight time, having been ever-presents since making their tournament bow in 2010. El Tricolor produced their best showing in the competition at the 2018 edition, where they finished as runners-up to Spain to become only the second Concacaf nation to reach the final, after the USA did so in 2008.

Cameroon are poised to participate in the U-17 Women’s World Cup for the third time, following Jordan 2016 and Uruguay 2018. In their previous two appearances, they exited after the group stage, and their only win thus far was a a 1-0 triumph against Germany in 2018. The Netherlands have qualified for the World Cup after winning their first-ever EURO title with a 2-1 victory against Norway. Ranneke Derks was awarded best player of U-17 Women’s EURO, scoring four goals throughout the tournament, including the winning goal in the final.

The US make their seventh appearance in the competition in Morocco. Their best performance came at the first-ever U-17 Women’s World Cup in 2008, when they reached the final. Last year they lost in the semi-finals to eventual champions Korea DPR, before winning the third-place game 3-0 against England. In qualifying for this World Cup, they scored 17 and kept a clean sheet in all three matches. Ecuador celebrated their debut last year in the Dominican Republic by making the quarter-finals and are now on the world stage for the second time in a row.
