Patrick Kluivert departs Indonesia post

Following Indonesia’s FIFA World Cup™ elimination earlier this week, the Indonesian Football Association (PSSI) has parted ways with head coach Patrick Kluivert.

Back-to-back defeats against Saudi Arabia and Iraq means that the Garuda’s long wait for a second appearance at the global finals will now continue for at least another four years.

Announcing their decision, the PSSI noted that: “The All Indonesia Football Association (PSSI) and the Indonesian National Team coaching staff have officially agreed to end their collaboration early through a mutual termination.”

Appointed in early January, the former Dutch star lasted barely nine months in the job. Along with Kluivert’s departure the PSSI also announced the exit of U-23 head coach and assistant national coach Gerald Vanenburg as well as U-20 boss Frank van Kempen.

In a statement, PSSI President Erick Thohir extended his gratitude for Kluivert and his team’s contributions during their tenure as Indonesia came close but ultimately fell short of reaching a second World Cup.

“I want to thank coach Patrick Kluivert and the coaching team for their efforts over almost 12 months towards the PSSI and the Indonesian national team,” Thohir wrote on social media.
