Brazil march past Morocco in opener

Morocco 0-3 Brazil

Brazil goals: Evelin (12), Giovanna Waksman (36), Allyne (75)

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025™ started off with a bang on Friday, as Brazil took down hosts Morocco in the Group A curtain-raiser at the Rabat Olympic Stadium.

Brazil were quick out of the gates and took an early lead when Evelin raced onto a long ball past the Moroccan defence and coolly slotted home for the tournament’s first goal.

Morocco were largely pinned back in their own half, but showed their attacking teeth in transition, especially when captain Kautar Azraf blasted wide on a shot from distance with goalkeeper Jhennifer off her line.

But Brazil star Giovanna Waksman, who featured last year at Dominican Republic 2024, would not be denied her goal and delivered in spectacular fashion by controlling a pass with her chest, juggling it twice and then firing it in on the half-volley.

Brazil would then tack on an insurance goal toward the end of the second half, as Morocco failed to clear a free-kick and Allyne hammered home a rebound.

Player of the Match: Giovanna Waksman (Brazil)

A veteran already of U-17 Women’s World Cups after appearing in the Caribbean a year ago, Waksman sizzled in her return trip to the global showpiece. Using a slice of Brazilian beach soccer, her skillful juggling and scoring was a sight to see.

Quotes

“I’m very happy for the goal, may it be the first of many others. I’m happy for the team too, we played really well. I felt relieved, because with my first touch, I could cool down a little bit in the game. It was pretty emotional, my first goal in a World Cup. I was running, she passed to me in space, I carried it and when I was one on one with the goalkeeper, I scored. It was emotional for me.”
Brazil player Evelin

“I was waiting for the ball on the ground, the ball came in the air, and I was like, I have to figure out something. And then it just touched my chest, juggled once, twice, and I saw the space and shot it. I’m very happy that it went in.”

“This loss will be an important lesson for us, and we will learn from it, as most of the players are experiencing their first official match in their careers. What they learned today could not have been gained in any previous match, which is why the next match will be better. This is what we promise to our dear fans.”
