Canada finally won an U-17 World Cup match at the 25th time of asking when they beat Uganda on Matchday 3. The North Americans had travelled to eight previous tournaments, but only mustered four draws. They stopped that winless run by securing a stunning comeback win against the Cranes.

Germany’s Toni Langsteiner scored the fastest goal of the Qatar 2025 group stage when he found the net after just 16 seconds against Colombia. It goes down as the third-fastest goal in U-17 World Cup history.

By winning their opening match of Qatar 2025 against Côte d’Ivoire, Switzerland extended their run of consecutive wins to eight – a joint-record with Brazil set between 2017 and 2023. Remarkably, the Swiss had only played eight matches at the finals, having won the edition in perfect fashion at Nigeria 2009. This winning streak came to end in a goalless draw with Korea Republic, though a 3-1 win over Mexico extended their unbeaten run to ten.

Czechia’s Vit Skrkon hit a seven-minute hat-trick in his side’s 6-1 demolition of Tajikistan on Matchday 3. It’s the joint-quickest treble in U-17 World Cup group-stage history. Spain’s David Rodriguez-Fraile also plundered three in the same timeframe in a 13-0 victory over New Zealand at Egypt 1997.

Argentina coach Diego Placente won all six World Cup group-stage matches he took charge of 2025. The former Albiceleste international coached the nation to three wins at the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025™ versus Cuba, Australia and Italy. He then led his U-17 charges to victories over Belgium, Tunisia and Fiji in Qatar.

Belgium’s Rene Mitongo became just the fifth player to net four goals in a U-17 World Cup game in the 7-0 flattening of Fiji. He followed Spain’s David, Colombia’s Carlos Hidalgo, Coté d’Ivoire’s Souleymane Coulibaly and Nigeria’s Kelechi Iheanacho in achieving the feat.

All of the sides in Group K finished level on four points. France topped the standings on goal difference, with Canada advancing in second thanks to their superior head-to-head record over Uganda. Chile were the unlucky side to miss out on a Round-of-32 berth due to their marginally worse goal difference. The only other time that has happened at a men’s World Cup was in Group E at USA 1994, when Mexico, Republic of Ireland, Italy and Norway all reached four points.

France topped Group K despite scoring just twice. That’s the fewest number of goals a side has advanced in first place with since Korea Republic did the same in Group B at Chile 2015. Only Qatar at Italy 1991 and Niger at India 2017 have progressed after netting fewer.

Indonesia and Uganda clinched their nations’ first-ever wins at any men’s World Cup. The AFC nation achieved that feat with a 2-1 success against Honduras, while the Cranes sunk France 1-0 to qualify for the knockouts.
