Julia Dupuy feels like the happiest girl in the world. Every time she drapes the blue and white stripes over her body, she is drenched in pride. It’s a shirt in which court lord Cristian Borruto and national god Lionel Messi conquered the world. It’s one in which Dupuy wants to follow suit.

The multifunctional 25-year-old chats to FIFA about the quality of Silvina Nava and Emilly, wearing the Argentina jersey and their mission to win the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025™.

Julia Dupuy: Playing in this World Cup has been my dream since I was five years old, since I started playing with my brother, my friends at school. I knew that this moment would come one day. I can’t believe that I’m here. I hope we enjoy it because it was so tough for all of us to get here. This is not just for us. This is for all the girls who are dreaming of this moment in the future. It’s a dream come true for me personally and for the sport in my country.

Our country is so passionate about football. I think pulling on this shirt, I don’t think any other national team feels the way we feel. In Argentina, we live for football. It’s our life. We understand life through it. We laugh because of it, we cry because of it. It’s what we dream about all the time. This shirt is like no other. You think about who has worn it. Of course you think that Messi has worn it, and so many other great players. When you put this shirt on, it gets your pulse racing. Wearing it in the World Cup will be indescribable.

We expect a tough match, because it’s the first match in the World Cup, so anything can happen. We are trying to think about our game more than their game, but we know that they have been working a lot for over the last three years. I think they have improved a lot, they have competed a lot. They are a better team now than the one we played against. Concentration will be key. It’s the first match in a World Cup, so naturally there will be a lot of emotions.

For me she’s the best player from our country. I’m fortunate to call her my friend. She’s so humble. She’s so hardworking. She’s a great player, but she’s a better team-mate. I learn a lot from her. I think she will become the best player in the Spanish league. She doesn’t like me saying that, but I’m sure of it.

I think Emilly plays a different sport to the rest of us! She’s my idol. She’s the player I would like watch in every game she plays. I’ve played against her and, believe me, it’s tough. She has demonstrated she’s the best with goals, assists, individual awards, team titles. It’s not just me who says that. I’ve played alongside Camila too. I think she’s the strongest player I’ve trained with. I learned a lot from her. I think Emilly is out on her own, but after that I think Silvina is up there with the best in the world.

She’s our captain. She’s an example to all of us. She’s really experienced. As well as being a great player, she has the right words for every moment. When we are frustrated, she has the right words to get us through it. She’s a great motivator. We are a young team. I’m 25. We have girls who are 20, 22. She has a lot of experience. She has played in a lot of important leagues, a lot of important matches. Her calmness is infectious.

Brazil. Because of their players, what they have done over the years. Spain are also big contenders. They are one of the teams who have worked the hardest in recent years. I believe that we can do it too. Sometimes it’s not the best team that wins the title, but the one who believes the most. We have worked very hard, we’re really well prepared, and we believe we can do it. So I’d say Brazil, Spain and us.

Yes, of course. We often think about what they did. We know the players. They worked really hard like we do. They fought a lot like we do. They were very humble like we are. They had no egos and nor do we. They all supported one another, regardless of who was on the court, like we do. I think this is the Argentinian culture. They made history. They are a big inspiration for us. We made history just by getting here, but that was just the beginning for Argentina. We want to make more history in the Philippines.
