Lidia Moreira was unstoppable as Portugal dominated Italy to storm into the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup™ semi-finals. Luis Conceicao’s charges will now return to PhilSports Arena on Friday to take on Argentina.
Ana Azevedo set up Carolina Pedriera for the opener, before heading the ball into Moreira, whose brilliant back-heel doubled Portugal’s advantage. Italy got back into the game when Erika Ferrara thwacked a penalty into the roof of the net, but the Seleção das Quinas came out for the second half flying. Moreira charged through and scored her second, Janice Silva netted an exquisite dink, and Kika conned her opponent and toe-poked home. Sara Boutimah struck to give Francesca Salvatore’s Azzurre hope, but Moreira and Janice added to their tallies to put the result to bed.
