Goalkeeping greats give mutual applause

They’ve monopolised net-guarding in recent times. Bianca and Ana Catarina Pereira have, indeed, won six Best Women’s Goalkeeper awards between them over the past seven years.

They’ve both been brilliant when called upon at the first FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup™. Bianca and Ana Catarina have produced several breathtaking saves and conceded only three goals apiece. Their heroics have helped Brazil and Portugal storm into Sunday’s final. Ahead of the showdown, FIFA asked the pair what they think of one another.

Bianca on Ana Catarina…

“She’s been named the world’s best goalkeeper four times. I’ve won it twice, and I know how hard I worked for that, so she has my utmost respect. She’s an outstanding goalkeeper. She’s very good at reading the game and, as everyone knows, she makes amazing saves.

“Ana Catarina is someone I’ve always had a lot of admiration for, a goalkeeper I’ve tried to learn from because I know how much quality she has. I wish her good luck.”

Ana Catarina on Bianca…

“I think Bianca is one of the best goalkeepers in history. She’s really strong in one-against-one situations, she has good posture, she has great positioning between the posts. She also has great quality playing with her feet, going up court, scoring goals.

“Therefore, I think she’s a complete goalkeeper. For me, she’s one of the best in history. I like to follow her and look up to her as a role model.”
