Pochettino calls on Reyna for USA friendlies

Mauricio Pochettino has called dangerman Gio Reyna into his USA squad for this month’s friendlies against Belgium and Portugal, while Bournemouth midfielder Tyler Adams has missed out due to a short-term injury. These are the last two matches for USA before their roster is announced for the FIFA World Cup 2026™ on 26 May.

Reyna has struggled for action since joining Borussia Monchengladbach, playing just 26 minutes since the start of the year, but his performances in the wins over Paraguay and Uruguay were enough to convince the Argentinian tactician.

“I think Gio was fantastic in November with us,” Pochettino said. “I think everyone praised him in his game against Paraguay, and then in the way that he was involved and committed with the team. And with the national team, I think I was really happy with the aspect and the factor that he was involved.”

Injuries have also prevented another two of Adams’ Qatar 2022 team-mates from being called upon: PSV full-back Sergino Dest and Coventry City forward Haji Wright.

Meanwhile, some notable returnees are Fulham full-back Antonee Robinson, who has not played for the national team since November 2024 due to an injury, and PSV forward Ricardo Pepi, who recovered from a broken arm sustained in January.

Crystal Palace centre-back Chris Richards, Juventus midfielder Weston McKennie and AC Milan playmaker Christian Pulisic are among the USA stalwarts who will be back in action in the two games set to take place at World Cup 2026 venue Atlanta Stadium.
