De Leon propels Puerto Rico to title

Jeremy de Leon exhilarated as Puerto Rico thrilled their home fans in Bayamon Pueblo. The 22-year-old, on loan at Hercules from Real Madrid Castilla, mercurially earned and clinically scored a penalty to set The Blue Hurricane en route to downing US Virgin Islands and conquering the FIFA Series 2026™ Puerto Rico.

Guam, for their part, overwhelmed America Samoa in the third-place play-off, with Levi Berg, 17, and 42-year-old Jason Cunliffe dazzling.

Elsewhere, Namibia netted all five spot-kicks to edge Comoros in a shootout in the FIFA Series 2026™ Kazakhstan.

Puerto Rico goals: Jeremy de Leon pen (20), Jeff Blaschka OG (45)

De Leon was unplayable as Charlie Trout’s team deservedly grabbed gold at the Juan Ramon Loubriel Stadium. The No10 controlled a long ball from Giovanni Calderon impeccably, instinctively nudged it past goalkeeper Whelan Joseph, and was felled. Leandro Antonetti attempted to grab the ball, but De Leon had none of it and duly sent the Joseph the wrong way to break the deadlock.

The Rio Grande native continued to terrorise the US Virgin Islands with his trickery and was involved in the move that led to the second. It was indebted to an Antonetti back-heel, with Bashler turning Sidney Paris’s touch into his own net.

Puerto Rico dominated the second half, with De Leon and Antonetti flickering their genius, but they failed to add to their tally. It mattered not as the Puerto Ricans were crowned champions in front of their own people.

Guam goals: Alii Mitchell OG (3), Levi Berg (13 & 35), Elijah Ochoa pen (39), Alec Taitague (57), James Gomez (86)

Ross Awa’s side ran riot against a team above them on the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking. With captain Cunliffe at his inventive best, Guam took a four-goal lead into the break, Berg having netted twice. America Samoa were more resolute after the restart, but couldn’t prevent Alec Taitague scoring after a delightful Cunliffe free-kick and James Gomez completing the rout following fine play from Joseph Ciochetto.

Goalkeeper Kamaijanda Ndisiro was the hero as Namibia beat Comoros on penalties in Kazakhstan. His fine save from Aboubacar Ali ultimately proved decisive in the shootout, with Uetuuru Kambato stepping up to fire in the winning kick. An attritional 90 minutes finished goalless. Comoros forward Adel Mahamoud came closest to a winner, with his powerful header athletically stopped by the inspired Ndisiro.
