Fifty-eight goals have been scored by No12s in the World Cup. They have come from exactly half that number of players.
Leading the way are France’s Thierry Henry (6 goals), the Netherlands’ Rob Rensenbrink (5), Poland’s Kazimierz Deyna (4), West Germany‘s Helmut Rahn (4) and Czechoslovakia’s Zdenek Zikan (4).
The only No12 on target in the final was Rahn, who bagged a brace, including the winner, against Hungary in 1954. Other memorable goals scored by No12s were Wolfgang Overath’s for West Germany against Australia in 1974, Thierry Henry’s winner for France against Brazil in the 2006 quarter-finals, and Kieran Trippier’s free-kick for England against Croatia in the 2018 semis.
