Chile and Uruguay clinch Qatar 2026 spots

Chile and Uruguay have qualified for the FIFA U-17 World Cup Qatar 2026™ after easing to victories in the play-offs at the ongoing South American U-17 Championship.

Both nations failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the continental competition – which would have guaranteed a Qatar 2026 spot – but with seven places up for grabs at the global showpiece they retained a chance of booking their tickets through the play-offs.

Uruguay proved too strong for Venezuela, recording a 3-0 win thanks to goals from Juan Pablo Gancheff, Nicolas Scotti and Thiago Brizuela.

Chile swept aside Bolivia 4-0, with Amaro Riveros, Joaquin Munoz, Baltazar Orostica and Ignacio Cerda on target for La Roja.

All is not lost for Venezuela and Bolivia, however, with the teams set to face off on Saturday with CONMEBOL’s final U-17 World Cup spot on the line.

In the semi-finals of the South American U-17 Championship, meanwhile, Colombia beat Brazil 3-0 and Argentina saw off Ecuador 3-1. Colombia and Argentina will go head-to-head in the title showdown on Sunday.
