Spain continue at the top of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking following the latest round of European qualifying for the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2027™. Despite a narrow 1-0 defeat to England, La Roja’s status as the No1 team on the planet remains intact.
While the 2023 world champions were immovable at the summit, there were several other changes in the top 10. England’s victory over the Spanish catapulted the Lionesses over Germany and into the third position, just one spot behind four-time champions USA, who played a trio of matches with Japan, winning two and losing one.
Germany now sit fourth following England’s rise, while Japan climbed three spots into fifth thanks in large part to the Nadeshiko’s conquest of the AFC Women’s Asian Cup, the qualifying tournament for Brazil 2027.
Rounding out the top ten are Brazil in sixth following their title-winning campaign in the Women’s FIFA Series 2026™ in Brazil, followed by France in seventh. Sweden’s rocky start to UEFA qualifying sees them fall three spots to eighth, while Canada moved up one spot to ninth and a four-point week against the French helped the Netherlands leap one spot into tenth.
Movers and shakers
Further down the pecking order, five nations reached their highest ranking in history: Türkiye (51st, up 7), El Salvador (78th, up 8), Kosovo (81st, up 11), Nepal (87th, up 2) and Saudi Arabia (160th, up 1).
An honourable mention goes to American Samoa (120th, up 17), who have built upon the 16-place rise they registered between the rankings published last August and December. Over the past two updates, the islanders have scaled an impressive 33 places after having amassed over 120 points.
