Johan Cruyff created 36 chances for the Netherlands at Germany 1974 – the most by any player at one World Cup. Diego Maradona is next with 27 for Argentina at Mexico 1986.
Cruyff finished his only global finals with three goals and three assists in seven appearances.
‘The Flying Dutchman’ also completed 12 dribbles in a breathtaking performance against Sweden – one of which was his unforgettable ‘Cruyff Turn’. Only three players have managed more in a World Cup match: Paul Gascoigne with 13 for England against Cameroon in 1990, Jairzinho with same total for Brazil against Uruguay in 1970, and Jay-Jay Okocha with 15 for Nigeria against Italy in 1994.
