Advocaat returns as Curaçao head coach

Dick Advocaat is returning as head coach of Curaçao and will be on the touchline for the Blue Wave’s FIFA World Cup 2026™ campaign.

Advocaat departed as Curaçao coach in February for personal reasons and was replaced by fellow Dutchman Fred Rutten, who guided the Caribbean side during the March international window in the FIFA Series 2026™ in Australia.

Earlier this week, the Curaçao Football Federation (FFK) announced that Rutten stepped down as coach. On Wednesday, Advocaat’s second spell in charge of the Blue Wave was confirmed, as he will become the oldest coach in World Cup history at age 78.

“Following the decision of head coach Fred Rutten to make his position available, the board of Federashon Futbòl Kòrsou has decided, during meetings held last night, to appoint Dick Advocaat as head coach of the Curaçao national team,” said the FFK in a statement.

“Discussions between FFK and Dick Advocaat regarding the further details of this appointment are currently ongoing. FFK is handling this process with due care, in accordance with existing agreements and the principles of good governance, with the aim of ensuring stability, clarity, and continuity around the national team.”

Curaçao open their historic first World Cup campaign on 14 June against Germany at Houston Stadium.
