Rodriguez and Xhaka feature in Yakin’s Switzerland squad

Switzerland have announced their 26-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

Experienced pair Ricardo Rodriguez and Granit Xhaka, who were both part of the Switzerland side that won the FIFA U-17 World Cup Nigeria 2009™, have been selected to represent the nation at a fourth senior finals. Manuel Akanji, Breel Embolo, Gregor Kobel and Denis Zakaria have also been called up by Murat Yakin.

Freiburg’s 20-year-old star Johan Manzambi is the youngest member of the squad and will join off the back of a terrific season with the Bundesliga outfit. Goalkeeper Marvin Keller, meanwhile, is the only uncapped player included.

Rodriguez and Xhaka chase further history

Ricardo Rodriguez and Granit Xhaka are set to take part in their fourth World Cup, after the pair played at Brazil 2014, Russia 2018 and Qatar 2022. The duo enter these finals deadlocked on a national-record 12 finals appearances, alongside fellow national icon Xherdan Shaqiri.

The last event they didn’t appear at was South Africa 2010, but just over six months before that tournament, they were penning a national fairy tale on the continent’s west coast. Switzerland, at their first U-17 World Cup, stunned the competition with seven straight wins in Nigeria to collect the country’s first global crown.
