Hlozek recovers to make provisional Czechia squad

Miroslav Koubek has named a provisional 29-man squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026™, where Czechia will take on Korea Republic, co-hosts Mexico and South Africa in Group A. The final 26-player group will be selected after a friendly against Kosovo on 31 May.

Attacking midfielder Adam Hlozek, who has missed most of the Bundesliga season for Hoffenheim, has sufficiently recovered from calf and foot injuries and is expected to be tested against Kosovo prior to the final roster decision. The 23-year-old last played for the national team last June in World Cup qualifying.

Koubek named three newcomers, including 17-year-old Sparta Prague midfielder Hugo Sochurek, Viktoria Plzen midfielder Alexandr Sojka and Mlada Boleslav forward Christophe Kabongo.

Meanwhile, Lyon midfielder Pavel Sulc, Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrik Schick and West Ham midfield Tomas Soucek will provide valuable experience to the Czech squad, who will be taking part in the global finals for the first time since Germany 2006. Captain Ladislav Krejci is also expected to play a vital role.

Slavia Prague players David Doudera and Tomas Chory will be without valuable match practice after being given lengthy bans following red cards in the recent abandoned Prague derby.
