16 days to go…
We’re counting down to the FIFA World Cup 2026™ by showcasing a golazo from the global finals each day.
Richarlison
Brazil 2-0 Serbia
Qatar 2022 | Group Stage
Lusail Stadium, Lusail
“Now that, that is Brazil!” commentator Peter Drury exclaimed. Richarlison, on the biggest stage of all, had just scored a goal which perfectly encapsulated jogo bonito.
Vinicius Junior inched forward from the left, forcing Darko Lazovic to retreat, and poked a cross into the area with the outside of his boot. Richarlison, with his back to goal, knocked the adidas Al Rihla into the Lusail sky with his left, before going airborne and scissor-kicking it into Vanja Milinkovic-Savic’s net with his right.
While Brazil’s tournament ended in quarter-final defeat to Croatia, Richarlison returned from Qatar having scored the Goal of the Tournament. “It was a very beautiful goal,” the striker later said. “I think it was one of the most beautiful ones of my career because it was in the World Cup.”
