In one of the most dramatic matches at the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™, Chelsea FC defeated SL Benfica 4-1 in extra time to claim a memorable Round of 16 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The Blues showed great character in bouncing back from conceding an equaliser in second-half stoppage time, when victory had looked to be within their grasp. Having absorbed that blow, three fine goals in extra time booked Chelsea a quarter-final date with Brazilian powerhouse Palmeiras.
In the thick of the action for Chelsea, like always, was Moises Caicedo, who provided the assist for his team’s third goal and was a workhorse in the middle of the park throughout.

For his efforts, the gracious Ecuadorian was named the Michelob Ultra Superior Player of the Match, although he was quick to share any adulation.
“I’m very happy, very happy to help the team, and for the team’s performance as well,” said Caicedo to FIFA. “If I could share the award with anyone, I would give it to each of one of my team-mates, including the ones on the bench. They help us a lot, they push us on from afar, so the truth is that I would give it to everyone.”

Since their 3-1 defeat to CR Flamengo in their second group stage match, Chelsea have picked up some momentum with two straight wins and are now in the final eight. Caicedo believes the Londoners have what it takes to lift the trophy.
“We are going to keep doing things well,” said the midfielder. “Now we are in the quarter-finals and we’re going to keep showing we can do it.
“Winning the Club World Cup would mean a lot for us,” said Caicedo. “We came into this having had a good season and now that we are here, we are doing very well.”
