Chelsea have parted company with head coach Enzo Maresca less than six months after lifting the FIFA Club World Cup 2025™.
The Italian was appointed at Stamford Bridge in June 2024, succeeding Mauricio Pochettino, and guided the English Premier League side to glory in the inaugural 32-team tournament in the United States after a thrilling 3-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at MetLife Stadium in New York New Jersey on 13 July.
Maresca also secured a return to UEFA Champions League football with a top-four finish in the Premier League last season and claimed further silverware with success in the UEFA Conference League.
However, after a run of only one win from their last seven Premier League games, and with Chelsea currently sitting 15 points adrift of leaders Arsenal in fifth, the Blues hierarchy have opted to make a change in the dug-out.
A statement on Chelsea’s official website read: “Chelsea Football Club and head coach Enzo Maresca have parted company.
“During his time at the club, Enzo led the team to success in the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup. Those achievements will remain an important part of the club’s recent history, and we thank him for his contributions to the club.
“With key objectives still to play for across four competitions including qualification for Champions League football, Enzo and the club believe a change gives the team the best chance of getting the season back on track. We wish Enzo well for the future.”
