With the matchday two deadline fast approaching, FIFA Club World Cup™ Fantasy managers have decisions to make.
After plenty of cut-price options delivered major returns in the first slate of matches – and high-priced ones failed to – teams will be scrambling to make transfers.
There are several methods available, firstly through the two free transfers that are available between the matchdays. Additional transfers can be made but they come at a cost of three points per transfer.
With a range of ‘boosters’ also available it’s there that many fantasy managers will likely also turn.
With the wildcard unable to be played before the Round of 16 (when unlimited transfers are available) one of the most popular strategies appears to be to deploy it prior to either Matchday two or Matchday three. The wildcard allows owners to make unlimited changes to their squad but once activated can’t be reversed.
Will allow you to select one additional player to score points for your team in a matchday. When selected, the 12th man cannot be substituted, captained or transferred. You can select any player to be your twelfth man, as long as that player is not already part of your squad. Budget or team restrictions do not count here.
Will allow you to get double points from whichever player scores the most points from your starting 11. This player will automatically be assigned the captaincy.
Stand by – the mystery booster will be revealed once Matchday 3 locks and the Round of 16 opens! It can be used for one round of the knockout stage. Keep an eye out, you’ll receive a pop-up notification once it becomes available.
Whether it’s standard free transfers or the boosters that you’re looking to play there are several players that loom as value/must-have picks. Here, FIFA lists some standout contenders, make sure you don’t miss the Matchday two lock-out, which will be one hour before the start of the second round of matches (Palmeiras v Al Ahly).
Good luck!
Weverton ($4.9m) GK | Palmeiras | Next opponent: Al Ahly FC
Against Porto, the Brazilian custodian kept a clean sheet on his way to a total of 10 points. With Palmeiras’ next opponent, Al Ahly, only managing a 0-0 draw in their opening game against Inter Miami, he could be on for another clean sheet here.
Nicolas Otamendi ($5.2m) DEF | SL Benfica | Next opponent: Auckland City FC
With a goal and an assist plus the scouting bonus, Otamendi earned 15 points against Boca Juniors. With a price tag of $5.2m, the centre-back with an eye for goal is comparatively cheap and with the next opponent being Auckland City, there should also be a good chance of a shut-out.
Senny Mayulu ($4.4m) MID | Paris Saint-Germain | Next opponent: Botafogo
Starring off the bench in PSG’s opener, 19-year-old Mayulu will likely start in that role again but at his price he’s well worth considering. The academy product has already demonstrated that he can have a big impact in limited minutes.
Jorginho ($5.5m) MID | CR Flamengo | Next opponent: Chelsea FC
Chelsea is a more difficult opponent for Flamengo, but Jorginho could still be a great option as he’s relatively cheap and earned eight points against Espérance. After an assist in the 2-0 victory to start the tournament, he’ll surely be highly motivated against his former team.
Julian Alvarez ($9.0m) FWD | Atlético de Madrid | Next opponent: Seattle Sounders FC
After opening with a 4-0 defeat to Paris Saint-Germain, Atleti is already under pressure and will play to win against Seattle. Alvarez only earned two points against a terrific PSG defence, but he did have a goal disallowed in that match and should have more chances against Seattle.
Francisco Conceicao ($5.7m) MID | Juventus FC | Next opponent: Wydad AC
Juventus dazzled in a stunning opening takedown of Al Ain FC and at the heart of much of it was the dazzling feet of Conceicao. With a tasty matchup on the slate against Wydad, the points could well keep flowing.
