Fit-again Depay selected as Netherlands name squad

Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman has named his 26-player squad for the FIFA World Cup 2026™.

The nation’s all-time top goalscorer Memphis Depay has recovered from a thigh injury and will be in the Oranje camp heading to North America. After two months on the sidelines, he made his comeback as a second-half substitute in Corinthians’ 1-0 win over Atletico Mineiro on 24 May.

Depay, 32, will be supported in attack by the likes of Cody Gakpo and Donyell Malen, who scored 14 goals in 18 Serie A matches for Roma after joining the Italian side from Aston Villa in January.

Towering centre-back Virgil van Dijk will captain the Dutch team at the World Cup 2026, while Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong is also expected to play a key role. Van Dijk’s Liverpool team-mate Jeremie Frimpong, however, is a notable absentee from Koeman’s selection.
