Manchester City were one of the busiest clubs during the window, as they signed three first-team players in as many days this week. Left-back Rayan Ait-Nouri was the first to arrive, with the Algerian joining from Wolves. He was followed through the door by 21-year-old Lyon winger Rayan Cherki, who will no doubt provide thrills aplenty in the attacking third. Tijjani Reijnders made it a hat-trick of impressive deals, with the Netherlands international midfielder joining from AC Milan.
City will be joined at the Club World Cup by fellow English giants Chelsea FC, who have also bolstered their already impressive squad. The headline addition was highly-courted striker Liam Delap, with the 22-year-old arriving from Ipswich Town following an eye-catching debut season in the Premier League. Exciting young midfielders Dario Essugo and Mamadou Sarr have also made the switch to Stamford Bridge from Sporting and Strasbourg respectively.
Players have also left England during the window. Trent Alexander-Arnold and Dean Huijsen departed Liverpool and Bournemouth respectively to sign for Real Madrid C. F. to give Xabi Alonso’s backline a new look. Jobe Bellingham, meanwhile, has followed in the footsteps of older brother Jude in signing for Borussia Dortmund after a stellar year at Sunderland.
Elsewhere in Europe, FC Internazionale Milano have brought in dynamic Marseille winger Luis Henrique and exciting Bosnian midfielder Petar Sucic. Portuguese heavyweights FC Porto pulled off a major coup by adding the immensely-talented Gabri Veiga to their ranks after two years with Al Ahli. FC Salzburg, meanwhile, welcomed a host of new players during the window, with the returning Stefan Lainer one of the standout arrivals.
In South America, Botafogo used the window to revamp their frontline, with Arthur Cabral and Joaquin Correa joining from fellow Club World Cup sides SL Benfica and Inter, respectively, alongside 18-year-old attacking midfielder Alvaro Montoro. CA Boca Juniors, meanwhile, have acquired 22-year-old centre-back Marco Pellegrino from AC Milan.
The biggest movers among the AFC teams heading to the States was arguably Al Ain FC, who have brought in 108-capped Portuguese goalkeeper Rui Patricio, among others. Elsewhere, Saudi Arabian international Ali Lajami joined Al Hilal from Al Nassr while Hiiro Komori profiles as a key addition for Urawa Red Diamonds, having arrived from Belgian side Sint-Truiden.
