Cold callers are as annoying as bad drivers, internet outages, mosquitoes and queue-jumpers. They’re inundating Nuengruthai Sorahong like never before. The 24-year-old is, however, happy to receive “countless messages from people I’ve never even met”.

The well-wishers, indeed, are seemingly as thrilled as the goalkeeper is that she’s off to represent Thailand in the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025™. Nuengruthai speaks to FIFA about that support, her excitement and the tournament target for Thanatorn Santanaprasit’s team.

Nuengruthai Sorahong: Honestly, I felt so happy and incredibly proud of all my team-mates. We set a clear goal: to qualify for the very first Futsal World Cup. We managed to flip the situation around and genuinely achieved it! It was an amazing feeling.

The team and I have felt a massive surge of support from Thai futsal fans. So many people started sending messages and cheering us on much more after we managed to defeat Japan in the group stage. That encouragement is huge for us.

Spain are undoubtedly a top team with many outstanding players. It’s a huge challenge for us to face them right off the bat in our first match. We are going to focus on executing our game plan and our style of play, and I really hope it’s going to be an exciting game for everyone to watch.

She’s a world-class keeper. We’ll have to face her in the first game, let’s see. I’m so excited.

I feel excited, proud and deeply moved every single time I step on to the court representing Thailand. Hearing the national anthem at the Women’s Futsal World Cup will be an unforgettable, massive experience for me once again.

I always receive constant support and messages from my family and friends, and also countless messages from Thai people I’ve never even met! They are sending us incredible encouragement.

I think Jenjira Bubpha will stand out. Her imagination and creativity on the court are exceptionally high.

We want to win every game we play to achieve our ultimate goal. Our first target is to reach the quarter-finals and also to soak up as much experience as possible at this top global level on our debut appearance.
