Portugal survived a late onslaught to edge Japan and guarantee finishing at their section’s summit at the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup Philippines 2025™.
Ana Azevedo scrambled home the opener following a sublime Carolina Pedreira cross, before an opportunistic Kaka goal made it two. Japan began using the fly goalkeeper in the closing stages and it enabled Sara Oino the space to thrash the ball into the top corner. Takehiro Suga’s side pushed hard for a leveller, but when Luis Conceicao’s charges won back possession, Azevedo fired the ball into the empty net to seal the deal.
The result left Japan requiring a draw against Tanzania on Saturday to progress. Portugal will play already-eliminated New Zealand in their final group game.
