Merlin Salcedo scored twice as Colombia sunk Thailand to reach the FIFA Futsal Women’s World Cup™ quarter-finals. They will return to PhilSports Arena for an all-South American showdown with Argentina on Monday.
Diana Celis tapped in the first after wonderful wing work from Alejandra Apraez, and Salcedo lashed home a loose ball to double Colombia’s lead. Teenage sensation Arriya Saetoen finished off flowing futsal to get Thailand back into it, only for another superb Salcedo strike to restore the two-goal cushion. Thanatorn Santanaprasit’s side began employing the fly goalkeeper but, when they lost possession, Danna Rodriguez found the net from way out to seal victory.
