Spain and England to renew rivalry in UEFA qualifiers

The European qualifying draw for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Brazil 2027™ has been made and has thrown up a host of fascinating contests.

The UEFA preliminaries for the global showpiece will be headlined by reigning champions Spain being paired with England in the league stage – a repeat of the final of the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™.

The high-profile duo have been joined by Iceland and Ukraine in their group following the draw in Nyon, Switzerland.

In a similar format to the UEFA Women’s Nations League, teams have been split into three leagues. Fixtures in the initial league stage will be played across six matchdays between March and June 2026, with the four League A group winners qualifying directly for the 32-team finals in Brazil.

The further seven direct European spots will be decided by two rounds of play-offs in October and November/December 2026. The remaining three League A teams proceed to the play-offs, as do the League B winners, runners-up and third-place teams, and League C group winners plus the two best runners-up.

An additional berth is potentially available through the FIFA Play-Off Tournament.
