USA forward Patrick Agyemang will miss the FIFA World Cup 2026™ after suffering a serious Achilles injury while playing for English Championship club Derby County. Agyemang landed awkwardly during Derby’s 2-0 home victory over Stoke City on Monday and had to leave the field on a stretcher.
“The club can confirm Patrick Agyemang suffered a serious Achilles tendon injury during the first half of the Sky Bet Championship fixture against Stoke City,” Derby County said in a statement. “As a result of this injury, Patrick will unfortunately miss this summer’s FIFA World Cup.”
The 25-year-old has been a key player for USA coach Mauricio Pochettino. He played against both Belgium and Portugal in the recent international break, finding the net in the 5-2 defeat to the Red Devils.
With Folarin Balogun the presumptive starter for the Stars and Stripes at the global finals, PSV Eindhoven’s Ricardo Pepi and Coventry City’s Haji Wright remain in contention to join Pochettino’s squad.
Co-hosts USA face Australia, Paraguay and Türkiye in Group D at the World Cup.
