Voting has opened for the 2025 FIFA Marta Award, with 11 strikes up for the illustrious prize.
The accolade is named after legendary Brazilian forward Marta, who scooped the inaugural award in 2024, and has received another nomination this year. It celebrates the most spectacular goals of the qualifying period, which was from 11 August 2024 to 2 August 2025.

Anywhere would do for North Carolina Courage as they hoofed away a threatening Seattle Reign attack. Anywhere, but the boot of Jordyn Bugg. The centre-back brought the clearance down and the ball sat up nicely, inviting her to thump an unstoppable effort into the top-right corner, leaving fans and team-mates alike with hands on heads in disbelief. To make it even more special, it proved to be the winner in a 2-1 National Women’s Soccer League victory.

Olympique Lyonnais v Arsenal | 27 April 2025
Mariona Caldentey netted a goal which was as crucial as it was stunning in the second leg of their UEFA Women’s Champions League semi-final triumph over Lyon. With the tie deadlocked at 2-2 on aggregate, the Spaniard received the ball just outside the D and shimmied to buy a yard. Then, with virtually no back-lift, she dug out a ferocious effort which left Christiane Endler rooted to the spot. The Gunners would go on to win 5-3 on aggregate, before lifting the title with victory over Barcelona.

Brentford v Ascot United | 3 November 2024
Brentford forward Ashley Cheatley opened her side’s Women’s FA Cup match versus Ascot United in stunning style. After controlling a ball into the area on her thigh, the Englishwoman flicked it over a defender and unleashed a stunning overhead kick into the bottom corner, setting her side on the way to a 4-2 victory.

Germany v Australia | 28 October 2024
Australia clinched a famous comeback win over Germany last year, with Kyra Cooney-Cross notching a memorable equaliser. The midfielder pounced on a loose ball just inside the Germans’ half, took one touch and lofted an inch-perfect effort over the despairing dive of Stina Johannes. Clare Hunt would go on to seal victory in the second half.

Korea DPR v Argentina | 2 September 2024
Korea DPR were already a goal to the good when Jon Ryong-jong picked the ball up 25 yards out on the left. She powered infield and let fly with a curling effort which flew into the top corner. The AFC giants would eventually win 6-2, en route to a third FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup™ title in Colombia.

Orlando Pride v Kansas City Current | 17 November 2024
With her team 2-1 up heading into the final moments, the Orlando Pride No10 picked up the ball just beyond halfway, stormed beyond one player and drove into the box. Once there, she sold two Kansas City Current defenders a dummy, sat down the goalkeeper with another, and calmly slotted home what would prove to be the winner.

Vivianne Miedema
Wales v Netherlands | 5 July 2025
The Netherlands kicked off their UEFA Women’s EURO campaign in stunning style through national icon Vivianne Miedema. Receiving the ball on the edge of the box, the captain faked to shoot with her right, then did the same on her left to buy a yard, before whipping a delightful effort into the far corner of the goal. The Dutch would go on to win their tournament opener 3-0.

Argentina v Costa Rica | 8 September 2024
With Argentina winless and heading out of the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup, a heroine was needed in their final Group F fixture. Kishi Nunez seized that role in spectacular fashion in Bogota, wriggling away from a challenge 40-plus yards from goal before looking up, seeing the Costa Rica keeper off her line and lofting an inch-perfect effort into the net. The goal proved to be decisive, both in winning the match and edging La Albiceleste through to the Round of 16.

Tigres v Guadalajara | 3 March 2025
Lizbeth Ovalle cemented a 2-0 win for Tigres over Guadalajara in spectacular fashion. Jenni Hermoso swung the ball in for the onrushing Mexican, who adjusted her body and flicked the ball into the top-left corner with an audacious scorpion kick. She made further headlines in August, with Orlando Pride paying £1.1m for her services to make her the most expensive female footballer of all time.

USA v Colombia | 20 February 2025
There looked to be little danger for Colombia when Ally Sentnor collected the ball 35 yards from goal, but that quickly changed. The American skipped past one, dropped a shoulder to throw off another and rifled a shot which swerved and dipped its way into the South Americans’ net to give the States a 2-0 lead which they wouldn’t relinquish in their SheBelieves Cup opener.

Hammarby v Manchester City | 21 November 2024
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw has long been a great goalscorer, and she netted arguably her best versus Hammarby in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. After receiving the ball on her left just outside the box, the Jamaican quickly shifted it on to her stronger right foot and powered a rising effort into the top of the net to secure her side a 2-1 success.
