Yu brace powers Korea DPR past Brazil

Semi-final

Brazil 0-2 Korea DPR

Korea DPR goals: Yu (pen 44, 51)

The FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup Morocco 2025™ has its first finalist, as Korea DPR glided past Brazil to reach their second successive decider and record fifth overall. Yu Jong-hyang continued her dominance at the tournament with another two goals, giving her eight for the campaign.

After an even start between the sides, things tilted in Korea DPR’s favour toward the end of the half when a Pak Rye-yong shot struck the arm of Andreyna on the Brazil goal-line.

Video review confirmed both a penalty and a red card, reducing Brazil to ten players and earning the Asian side a spot kick, which Yu calmly converted.

Yu tacked on her second shortly after the restart when she controlled an attempted headed clearance with her chest and then fired into goal.

Korea DPR easily saw things out the rest of the way to reach Saturday’s decider against either Netherlands or Mexico.

Quotes

“I’m extremely happy. I think the players have done very well. Today’s match was especially tough, but they stayed composed and handled it well. Now we are heading into the final. As a coach, it’s only natural to desire to win, every coach wants that. So we have done our utmost to become champions.”
Pak Song-jin, head coach of Korea DPR

“It was a great match. We gave everything we had out there. Of course we wanted to win, but I’m very proud of my team-mates and the entire coaching staff for all the lessons we’ve learned. Nothing is lost. We still have the third-place match ahead of us, and we’re going to give our all to win that medal. I’m really proud of every single one of my teammates.”
Kaylane, Brazil captain

“This match was a confirmation of what we’re building, a confirmation of where they want to go and who they want to be. It’s not easy to play with one player down against the reigning world champions. The numbers in the second half were far below what a team with 11 players can produce: only seven shots. What we managed to do with 10 players is something that would make any coach proud. We still have a long road ahead, and I’m very happy with everything they’ve shown and how much they’ve grown during the tournament. Today’s game brought a new situation they hadn’t experienced before, but they proved how valuable they are and that we’re going after that medal.”
Rilany Silva, Brazil coach
