The second half of Algeria’s quarter-final bout with United Arab Emirates was just 45 seconds old before Adil Boulbina rifled them into the lead. In a unique turn of events, Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates shared third place on the podium. The pair had contested the first half of their third-place play-off before the game was abandoned before the start of the second period due to adverse weather conditions.

Both Ali Olwan and Abderrazak Hamdallah netted braces in the decider. Hamdallah emerged from the bench to score the 88th-minute equaliser, before hitting the winner in extra time. The game occurred on the three-year anniversary of Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe trading blows in the FIFA World Cup™ final at the same venue.

Algeria are yet to trail for a single minute at the Arab Cup. They won the title without falling behind in 2021. At this edition, they conceded just once in the groups when already a goal to the good versus Bahrain. They were then pegged back in their quarter-final bout with United Arab Emirates, before losing on penalties.
